Dental Sinuit treatment and Sinus perforation

Treatment of Dental Sinuitis and Management of Sinus Perforation Dental Sinuitis is a form of sinusitis that occurs when bacteria from the mouth spread to the sinuses, often as a result of problems with the teeth in the upper jaw, such as tooth decay, tooth loss or complications after tooth extractions. This condition usually only affects one sinus and treatment focuses on eliminating the infection in the mouth to prevent further spread of the bacteria. Symptoms of dental sinusitis include nasal congestion, runny nose, facial pain, pressure across the face and toothache, all of which require careful diagnosis and treatment.

Sinus perforation, which often occurs during extraction of the maxillary molars, involves the creation of a communication between the extraction socket and the maxillary sinus. This condition can lead to both acute and chronic sinusitis as well as the development of oroantral fistula if not properly managed. The treatment of larger sinus perforations (>7 mm) may include techniques such as Rehrmannplasty, where a mucoperiosteal flap is released to seal the communication. Smaller perforations can often be managed with tight suturing to promote healing and prevent complications.
