Apical surgery
Apical surgery is an advanced dental treatment that aims to save teeth affected by infections at the root apex of the tooth, even after a root canal has failed to eliminate the infection. The treatment involves surgical removal of the root tip and the infected tissue, allowing the tooth to be preserved. This procedure, also known as root-end surgery or root-tip resection, is often a last resort to avoid tooth extraction and has a good prognosis with modern surgical methods.
During an apical surgery, the dental surgeon takes steps to carefully remove part of the root tip and any infected tissue. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and usually takes between 60 to 90 minutes including preparation time. The patient is then allowed to return to have the stitches removed about a week after the operation, and the swelling and soreness in the surgical area usually subsides within a few days.
At Gloss & Floss Dental Care®, we are one of the few private dental clinics to perform this advanced treatment. Our experienced staff use the latest techniques to ensure that our patients receive an effective and painless treatment.
